Sweet N Sassy stamps blog hop

Hi there! What do you know I finally have a mid-week post LOL? It is time to say farewell to some wonderfully talented ladies that have served for the last 6 months on the SNSS DT. We also say welcome to some terrific new ladies who will be serving for the next 6 months. So there are lots of inspiring projects for you to see on the blog hop. I have 2 CAS cards to share with you today which is rather unusual for me. Once in awhile I like to change it up. I also changed my hair this week and had it highlighted so I guess I am quite the rebel LOL.





I used the newly released beautiful borders set for my cards. There are 5 stamps in the set and they make great focal points, borders, or custom dp. I simply inked up half the stamp and stamped my image. I then die cut it using my long rectangle nesties and drew a frame around them while still in the die with my marker. I accented the middle of the flowers with some rhinestones and simply tied a ribbon at the top and voila! Since I was making a CAS card I wanted to use some "special" paper so I chose white sparkle from Paper Temptress to add a little something without adding layers. Oh and the sparkle paper is on sale 25% off for the month of July too!!

This is my second post today. I usually don't to have 2 posts in one day but today is the papertrey blog hop and I really wanted to participate since the theme was birthday cards. Simply Elegant Sympathy

Well, today is the first day that I went to the "Y" and worked out in about a month. I really had to force myself to go. I cut my foot a few weeks ago and everytime I walked on it I split it open. Then I just got out of the routine and rather would stay home and stamp LOL. So, I did it and it was almost like the first day again. I took it fairly easy and only did 30 minutes at about 75% so I wouldn't die and get sore. So, the reason for my story is that I did not stamp today (YET) but I have some things that I made recently to share.

The two cards I have to share are pretty similar and are simple cards but I really do like them. I used my rectangle nestabilities to emboss- not cut a rectangle on my white cardstock and then stamped my image inside of it.

The second card I used my markers to color directly on my stamp before stamping. If you use 2 different shades of the same color you can shade directly on your stamp. I used pale plum and perfect plum in this example.

July Papertrey blog hop

Today is the papertrey blog hop and you can find out more info and see the list of participating blogs Here. For this month's challenge you were to use vellum. Other nice thing is that one of the dirty girl challenges this month was also to use vellum so I was happy to be able to combine the 2. I have 3 cards to show you tonight using vellum and all 3 of them use it a little differently.



This first card I stamped the ink directly onto the vellum and then layered the vellum onto white CS with vellum adhesive. The sentimnent was stamped and sponged while still in the nestability die.

The second card the vellum layer is placed over the white cardstock which is where the flowers are stamped. I did this to soften the bg and try a different look. The vellum is attached with vellum adhesive.

The third card is a shaker card with the vellum layer run through a cuttlebug embossing folder.



The vellum is attached with adhesive under the image and with the brads. I used kosher salt for the snow inside the shaker. This card is pretty self explanatory and here you can find a tutorial on how to make a shaker card.

Papertrey June blog hop

Today is the night for the blog hop over in the papertrey forum. It is a neat way to visit people's blogs and get lots of inspiration from all the cool projects that they post. This month's theme was to use transparencies on your projects. I am assuming that includes acetate and similar products. Well I guess this was my lucky month because I already had my project done as I entered it in the June GSS contest at papertrey and I did not post it yet. I was awarded an honorable mention for this project by Nichole too so how cool is that! Now for my project...



This is a 2-4-6-8 box that I made for my friend who recently found out she was pregnant. I took a sheet of 8.5"X11" CS and cut it down to 6"X 8.5". I scored it with my scor-pal at 2", 4", 6" and 8" vertically and then scored 2" up from the bottom horizontally. You can find a picture of the instructions here. I cut off approx 2" from all but the second panel because I wanted that to fold over the front of the box. On the fourth panel I cut out my oval with my CM oval cutter. I then cut out an oval from my sunrise CS which had a 1/4" smaller oval so that it would create a matte inside the lemon oval. I then attached a rectangle piece of acetate to cover the opening on what would be the inside of the box. I stamped the 1st and 3rd panels on the outside with my honey bee image. I stamped my sentiments on the outside of my oval cut out section panel. I cut my bottom sections and then folded them and used red sticky tape to adhere the panels to form the bottom of the box. I filled the box with bit o honey candies that I wrapped with labels decorated with the honey bees and limitless labels set. I punched out a decorative floral border using my Fiskars punch on the lemon edge and attached a piece of sunrise to the bottom of the lemon tart section and folded it over and attached with red sticky tape. To finish off my project I tied a bow with my satin ribbon and attached it.

Challenge Day

The cards I have to share today are both challenge cards.

This first card is for the featured stamped challenge which also uses the color challenge of the week which I love. Here is the card of Diane's that I chose to CASE. I changed the stamp set, sentiment, ribbon. I also added brads, piercing ticket corner, extra layers and bg stamp. I stamped my image on the kraft with pallette noir- I never stamped on kraft but wanted to try it. I stamped my flower in versamark on sky and embossed it with black ep. I cut it out, punched the small circle and attached it with a pop dot for dimension. I stamped my sky layer with the sanded bg and sponged the edges and double matted. I added my strip layer which I pierced and tied the ribbon around. I used the ticket corner punch and brads on my main image and double matted and attached to the card. I finished off by stamping my sentiment in black.

The second card is a triple challenge card- woohoo!



The sketch I used is Taylor's cupcake challenge and that is also why I chose this Riley- because he is holding a cupcake. I did the hanna stamps PJ challenge 4 which required you to use more than one punch. You will definitely want to run not walk over to the hanna forum and participate in the challenges because you can win some awesome stamps! There are 4 different challenges you can enter for. The last challenge is from the Our Creative Corner which required the use of both buttons and brads on your card. You can check out the deets on my fellow hanna DT member Cindy's blog. I started with my white base and added the red layer which I added white get dots on and my dp layer which I sponged. My half circle was run through my cb. I colored my Riley using my copics and prismamarkers. The cherry on top of the cupcake is a red brad covered with stickles. This was double matted and added to the card after the ribbon was tied. I used my brand new riley sentiments available at hanna stamps which was just released and punched with my CM circle punch. I finished my card with my buttons which were tied with red cord.

Papertrey honorable mentions

Yippee!! This is a short post for now and I will post later too with some projects but I wanted to share some news with you. They are not my favorite projects that I submitted either so you never know what she is going to pick. Some more Papertrey star stamper entries

Good Monday morning to you! Well, I am bummed to say no GSS for me this month. I am still hoping for an honorable mention though and I will keep ya posted. At least this month I thought the winners were good. I even picked out 2 of the 3 winners myself.


For this card I started out with my white card and did my red and navy layers. On the navy I stamped my snowflakes in versamark and embossed with my silver jewels powder. I stamped my mailboxes in pallette noir on white and colored them with my markers. I used a versamark marker to fill in the snow and to put some snow on the mailboxes and embossed with iridescent ice ep. I then matted that image. I used my Fiskars snowflake border embossing punch for the white snowflake layer. I attached that and my grosgrain to the navy and then attached my image. I also stamped my little envelopes on both white and red, cut them out, then trimmed them and glued them onto my image to make the mailboxes look like they had mail in them.

Papertrey June GSS entries

I have been working on some June papertrey guest star stamper submissions lately and I thought I would share some with you. I will probably split them into 2 posts and share them on another day as well. I always get so nervous about submitting things into contests. Tonight the winners of the contest will be announced so I am crossing my fingers.

For this first card I started with my card base of PTI white stampers select. I LOVE this paper for card bases because it is so thick and easily stands up to be used as the base. I then stamped my images on vellum CS in white craft ink and set aside to dry for awhile. I also stamped my sentiment on vellum with white too. I cut my mattes of black and summer sunrise. When the ink was dry I used a scor-pal to make a frame around the image and attached my vellum to my mattes with black brads. The sentiment was "attached" by threading the ribbon through it. I finished off the card by adding rhinestones to the middle of the flowers.

This next card is another simple elegant card done very similar to the first card so I won't describe the process again. I chose to do some simple elegant cards because Nichole Heady is know for that and since it is her contest I was hoping to be able to appeal to her. I used my scor-pal to again create a frame for the image. I used my CM oval cutter to cut out my oval and adhered my image to the back of the white and that way you would not see the glue through the vellum. Vellum can be tricky because you need to use certain adhesives so it does not show. I still find that even the special ones show sometimes though.

This next card I wanting to make my bee look like he wrote the sentiment so I stamped both my sentiment and my bee and then drew with a pencil lightly a curvy trail. I pierced the trail and erased my pencil marks. I made my honeycomb bg paper using another stamp from the set and then sponged it. I am not sure if I should have done that though. Oh well not pulling apart this time. I punched out 3 circles on the yellow strip and ran it through my cb. I stamped my 3 bees on white and attached under the yellow. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

The last card I will share with you today is much more "busy". I am not sure that this one will appeal to Nichole but I like it anyway. I used it for my dd's teacher for the end of the year. I started out with a square base this time of 4.75". My colors were chosen from Verve's May color parade which can be seen here for the challenge. There is another challenge for this month so be sure to check it out on their blog. I hope to play along if I get the chance.



I stamped my images using the verve colors. I then used a stiple brush to create the sky and the grass. I pierced my strips, card base and around the sentiment. I used my SU oval punches and scallop punches for the sentiment.

Papertrey May blog hop

Hi everyone. Bonus post for today. It is the blog hop over in the Papertrey forum tonight. I had the date wrong so you should see me scrambling around the house so I can get this post in time.

So, on to my project now. I started out with my summer sunrise card base. I added a lemon tart layer with a 1/8" border around it. I then took my white stampers select and cut it so that there would be a 1/8" border of lemon tart around it. I drew in guide lines for myself on the back with 1/4" inch all around it. I scored along the guide lines using my scor-pal so that I had a frame around the white. I then made the diagonal grid lines by turning my paper so that it would be diagonal and scored my lines turned the paper 90 degrees and scored the diagonal lines so that I would have diamond shapes. I stamped the littlest bee from the PT honey bees set in the middle of some of the diamonds in both lemon and sunrise. I stamped the main bee image and the sentiment onto a white square made a border around that with my scor-pal and matted that on lemon. I scored the lemon strip in the middle 3 times along the edges and in the middle and then adhered my main image onto that and attached everything to my white diamond layer. I finished off the card by adding an eyelet in each corner and giving it some sparkle with my clear spica glitter pen. Sketch Challenge Wednesday

Well happy hump day AKA Wednesday! This means that it is sketch day over at SCS. Today's sketch is SC178 if you want to play along too. If you do, I would love to hear from you and see what you came up with so post a link with your creation in the comment section. This is really a cool sketch but I had a hard time figuring out what stamp I wanted to use. The image needed to be a smaller one so once I figured out what I was going to use it was smooth sailing. I really like how this card came out (is it ok to say that you like your card you made? LOL). As a matter of fact I think that I am going to do this for my final swap card with one of my monthly swap groups. Ok now for the deets. I ran my white layer through my cuttlebug using my swiss dots folder. Oh how I LOVE my cuttlebug! I received this as a gift from the ladies that I swap in my monthly group- boy I am going to miss you ladies. Anyway, I double matted that after I tied my red polka dotted organdy ribbon around it. I also added a green polka dot knot to the red ribbon. I stamped my strawberry onto white by masking off the red part of the strawberry with scotch tape and inking it up with my wasabi pad (there is no wasabi marker) then removing the tape and using my red marker to color in the rest of the strawberry. I used a white gel pen to make the seeds on the strawberry "pop". I stamped my sentiment beneath that- isn't that such a perfect saying for this stamp? I double matted the main image and attached that onto my red dp layer which was cut into a 2.5" X 2.5" square. I cut my green dp and matted that onto red, secured the striped grosgrain ribbon around and added 4 red eyelets to the corners. I adhered that to my card and finished off by attached my main image. Voila! This card just makes me smile. I need to see if I have a thank you berry much sentiment because that would work well for this too.

CASEing Peanutbee

This weeks Featured Stamper on SCS is the very talented Denise AKA Peanutbee. I am glad to call Denise a friend of mine. This is a much deserved recognition for her as there are so many of us who enjoy browsing through her gallery. This is the card that I chose to CASE from Denise. As per the rules of the challenge, I changed the colors/paper, the stamp, the embellishment in the corner and I turned the sketch. I only hope I did her proud.

So to make this card I started out by stamping my image and coloring it with prismacolor pencils and gamsol. I stamped the sentiment in the lower corner and matted it on pixie pink CS. I also used a pixie pink card base and cut it to 5X5. I cut my 4 dp squares to 4.25" X 4.25" and matted them on brilliant blue with 1/16" border around them. To do this I used my perfect layers tool which I almost always grab when I am making my cards. I am quite the perfectionist and I like my matting to be equal and centered. I adhered the 4 squares onto the card base and added the spiral clip with ribbon embellishment to the corner of the image and also attached that to the card base. I finished my card by adding some stickles to the balloons and the ribbon of the present.

Featured stamper challenge

I decided to play in the FS challenge on Splitcoast for the first time. This challenge was perfect for me because the featured stamper this week is dawnsing who has a simple yet elegant style. Well this is a very different style than I am used to doing so it made me step out of my comfort zone plus I need to complete quite a few cards for some gifts and stuff in a fairly short amount of time. If you are not familiar with the FS challenge you can read more about it here.

The first card is a card that I made for my cousin who is going to be having surgery on Friday. I thought I would get this ready for her and hope it may brighten her day just a little when she receives it. The card I chose to case from dawnsing is this one. According to the rules you need to change at least 2 things and I changed the colors, sentiment, matted the dp sections and used the flower rather than the star and a rhinestone rather than the brad. I started out with a pink card base and matted 3 sections of different patterned paper on pomegranite which I attached to the card base. I stamped the sentiment in cocoa and matted that and attaced the flower to the sentiment strip with pop dots. I then added an adhesive rhinestone to the center of the flower. I finished the card by tying some ribbon at the top of the card. I am happy with the way it turned out. Simple but pretty at the same time- a new concept for me LOL.

The second card was inspired by some ribbon origianls from SU that I have had for awhile and never used. I have always wanted to use this ribbon but it always seemed too much or too big so with this very simple layout it was perfect to use as the focal point. Problem is that is was very hard to tie and now I won't be mailing it because the ribbon knot is so big LOL. I will be hand delivering it now. This type of card is great if you are including it in with a package or something and not putting such a large bow through the mail. Dawnsing's card that I chose to case for this one can be found here.

For this card I changed the color scheme, sentiment, ribbon, paper and card orientation (mine has a side fold as opposed to top fold). I started out with a celery base then added a section of dp which I used a corner rounder on, a layer of bazzill bling and finished off with the awesome ribbon which I tied in a knot. I then stamped my sentiment and paper pierced a row with the sentiment.

PT May Guest Star Stamper Submissions

ETA: thank you all for the wonderful comments and well wishes. Unfortunately, I was not chosen this month for the GSS. I have to admit that I am kinda bummed about it too. I certainly don't expect to be chosen every month but I thought that my cards this month were pretty good and creative using the flower as a butterfly and as a dragonfly. I was hoping that Nichole would think so too- you never know maybe I will be chosen for honorable mention which I would be thrilled about.

Well since the submission period for projects is now over I think it would be ok for me to post them here on my blog. Boy that sounds strange for me to type- my blog LOL!

When I received my garden of life set from papertrey which I was blessed to win last month for my April GSS submission I immediately saw butterflies and dragonflies. Now I realize that this may sound strange to some of you as there are only flowers in this set and no butterflies but let me explain. I took the one flower image and masked off 2 of the sides with clear tape inked my stamp then removed the tape and stamped my image/s. To make the body of the butterflies I used one of the stem images from the garden of life set and inked only part of it up. For the butterfly/dragonfly head I used the smallest circle image from the set. This is the technique that I used on 3 of the cards which I shall now post and then include some additional comments along with a recipe for each.



For this first card I followed an old mojo Monday sketch from Julee Tilman. I love her sketches. I used sweet blush and berry sorbet from Papertrey as my color pallette. The 2 smaller ovals on the main image are Marvy punches and the larger oval was made using my CM cutting system. The half ovals are using the marvy punches also. I highlighted the ovals with my paper piercing tool and the dragonflies are outlined with a clear spica glitter pen which is hard to see in the photo.

This second card is my husband's favorite- maybe because sunflowers are his favorite flower. I did the 2-step stamping technique for the main sunflower image and paper pierced the center of the flower for added texture and interest. The butterfly image in the corner was done using the technique described above but by stamping the image twice and cutting out the one butterfly and adhering it on top of the first image and curling the wings up to give it some dimension as shown in the photo below.

This 3rd card I think might be my personal favorite. I pierced the bodies of the butterflies and used rhinestones for the heads. The scalloped rectangle was cut using my nestabilities- love them! There is a lot of paper piercing on this one as you can see in the picture below.

This last card I did not use the same masking technique as used on the other 3 cards. In order to make the butterflies on this card I used the direct marker to stamp technique just omitting the parts of the flower I did not want. I created the scalloped border using my SU! slit? punch. I always mix up the slit and slot punches LOL. I pierced the top border of the middle section. The butterflies were outlined/highlighted with polka dots using my regal rose marker. I actually drew in the bodies and heads of the butterflies with the fine tip of my markers.
